Zhavame village celebrates Thüni festival

Zhavame village on Tuesday celebrated Thüni festival and new Zhavachhi model village and newly constructed village gallery (Thehouba) was also inaugurated at the occasion. DC, Phek Mikha Lomi who was the chief guest on the occasion formally inaugurated the new Zhavachhi model village while the president of Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization (TPO) Z.M Sekhose who was the guest of honour inaugurated the newly constructed village gallery in the presence of local MLA and Advisor NRE, S&T and Art & Culture Deo Nukhu and hosts of other officials. In his address, the chief guest stressed the need to revive and preserve the rich tradition, culture, festivals and also work culture practiced by the forefather. Eating meat and drinking alcohol alone cannot preserve festival, he pointed out the drinking habit and work culture practice by the forefather. He also said that the forefather drank daily including festive occasion but with limit and also did not fail in their work culture. He however, pointed out that in the present days many youth were spoiled because of drinking without limitation and at the same time failed in their work culture. Lomi also expressed regret at the present trend of the Naga society where people were turning lazy and looking for only easy money. Even if the leaders want to work for the development they won’t be able to do so if people keep on demanding money from them. “Nagas are turning out to be the worst beggar who will not accept small amount and even resort to threatening to part out money”, he said. Earlier, TPO President Z.M Sekhose while extending New Year and Thüni festival greeting to the gathering villagers highlighted on Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization which was a family organization of ten tribes. He highlighted the forthcoming Tenyimi Day celebration to he held on February 22 at the historic legendary sacred Wild Pear Tree located at Charangho (Shajouba) village where Tenyimi forefather last assembled before their final dispersal to the various places where they are today. On the occasion, he also recalled the friendship maintained between the Kohima village and Zhavame (Raziemia) village some one hundred years back and stressed on the need to further foster unity and friendship among Tenyimi brothers and sisters. He also appreciated and lauded the village for their system of maintaining jail in the village to control its citizen from indulging in unwanted elements and further commented that if every village effectively controlled their respective citizen by introducing such measure, there would be no necessity another jail of the government. Earlier, MLA and Advisor NRE, S&T and Art & Culture, Deo Nukhu who was the chief host in his address expressed happiness on being able to celebrate the Thüni festival and also thanked the villagers for their cooperation and generous contribution of land for construction of new village ground. He also thanked both DC Phek and TPO president for inaugurating the new Zhavachhi village and the newly constructed village gallery respectively.
