Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu on Tuesday informed that Phek district was in full swing and ready to host the first Road Show for 2010 at Phek Town from January 14-15. Governor of Nagaland Nikhil Kumar and chief minister Neiphiu Rio will be the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Briefing media persons at his residential office, the minister said that the Phek Road Show would be one with a difference. He announced that a dance troupe from Thailand will participate in the Road Show. “The government will showcase its activities and development taking place on ground and also inform ways to benefit the general public”, he said. He added that cultural activities, products, health mela and various cuisines would be exhibited.
Convener of programme committee, Nüzota Swuro, said that the concept of the road show was to showcase culture and products from original to modern times. He said that the road show would put emphasis on bio-diversity, with Phek district being a bio-diversity hotspot, and showcase various medicinal plants and fruits. A showcase of traditional method of making textile through stinging nettle would be held, while a booklet on the significance of designs and motifs of the Chakhesang attires will be released. The convener also informed that a large variety of folk songs and dances marking various occasions and seasons would be performed.
The Phek Road Show would commence on January 14 with an introductory session at Phek Town Hall, with Minister Kuzholuzo Nienu as the chief guest. An open beat contest would be followed, which will be graced by Neiba Kronu, deputy chairman, State Planning Board. The inaugural function would be held on January 15 at Phek Local Ground with the presence of state governor Nikhil Kumar and chief minister Neiphiu Rio. Major highlights include exhibitions, cultural extravaganza, food fest. A talent session of fashion show, Miss Phek beauty pageant and prize distribution will be held later in the evening, which will be graced by minister for Planning and Coordination, T.R. Zeliang as the chief guest.
