Mizoram CM to visit Tripura village

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawala is scheduled to meet the Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples Forum (MBDPF) leaders tomorrow at Jampui Eden Lodge, along Mizoram-Tripura border, to discuss the Reang refugee repatriation issue. Official sources here today said Lal Thanhawala was scheduled to arrive at the bordering village to attend a social function and will spend the night at Eden. He would meet MBDPF representatives to sort out the one-and-half decade long stalemate of refugee repatriation following alleged atrocities on Bru tribes in Mizoram. According to a UNI report, MBDPF officials said they would submit a memorandum demanding to ensure safe return of 35,000 refugees iodged in six camps in Kanchanpur of North Tripura and to provide adequate security to Bru inhabitants in Mizoram. They expressed displeasure over the schedule of Mr Lal Thanhawala’s visit and alleged that he was intentionally avoiding visit to the refugee camps.
