Mkg DPDB calls for strengthening VECs

The monthly meeting of Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at DC’s conference hall on January 7 with Deputy Commissioner C.M. Tsanglao on the chair. Presiding over the meeting the DC reminded heads of offices to submit completion certificate report without which no payment will be made. The meeting also approved Saint John School, Changtongya (Private High School) seeking grant in aid from the government. District Education Officer Y. Lanutemjen gave a power point presentation on ‘Education Scenario in the District’ leading to hour long discussions over the functioning of government schools in the district. According to an official bulletin, the DPDB members called for efforts to eradicate illiteracy from the district in the near future. The DC, while taking part in the discussions, stressed on the need to strengthen the functioning of Village Education Committees and felt that chairmen of VECs should be elected/nominated, an upright person and he should be apolitical person. The meeting also chalked out detail programme for Republic Day celebration at Mokokchung town.
