The 9th general conference of Kacharigaon Phevima Students Union was held at the village council hall, Kacharigaon, Saturday, on the theme ‘Synchronizing academic and social responsibilities’.
Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Editor, Nagaland Post, Geoffrey Yaden urged upon students to realise the value of planning in their lives if they wanted to achieve their vision and goals.
Dwelling on the theme of the conference, he said synchronizing both academic and social responsibilities demanded that students understood the value of time in apportioning between the two. On the other hand, the chief guest said wisdom to synchronise came from God and encouraged the youth to seek God while they are young so as to keep their minds and bodies healthy to excel in all good things.
Stating that success did not end with an achievement but in following a life pattern of goal setting and dedication, Geoffrey also said this aspect was the essence of transformation of society. He also advised students to always be prepared for the challenges of changes taking place in the world.
Quoting from the book of Ecclesiastes, the chief guest urged the students to acknowledge that time and season was created by God for humans and stressed on the need to strengthen family bonds in a hurly burly world as they will not get an opportunity once they settle down in life.
The chief guest also urged the students to work as one with their community in building a healthy environment particularly with HIV and other problems rampaging society.
Earlier during the programme, a welcome song was presented by the Covenant while an instrumental piece was displayed by Tutu Kerhuo. The other highlights of the programme included the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected office bearers and speeches from both the outgoing and incoming president.
