Adding to the woes of already burdened consumers owing to unabated price rise of essential commodities, the Dimapur Bakery Association (DBA) has decided to effect upward revision of prices of all the bakery products with effect from January 18. According to DBA convenor Ato Yepthomi, a decision to this effect was taken during an emergency meeting of the DBA on Sunday afternoon. Ato said the bakers had no option but to pass on the burden on to the consumers in view of the increase in prices of various commodities by the central government. The DBA also slammed the UPA government for not being able to control the price rice due to its alleged “anti-poor policies.” The DBA suggested that the government immediately start importing essential commodities to contain the price rice. It also advised the state government to strictly check fair price shops and increase the number of ration cards being issued to ease the common man of the problem of price rise. Prices of bakery products to be effective from Jan 18 Item Present rate New rate Plain Bread Rs. 15 Rs. 20 Sweet Bread Rs. 17 Rs. 22 Chicken Patties Rs. 12 Rs. 15 Cup Cake Rs. 3 Rs. 4 Prices of other products such as cakes and biscuits were being worked out.
