8th NE Regional Power Committee meet starts in Imphal

The two day meeting of the 8th North East Regional Power Committee kicked off here at Classic Hotel, Imphal Monday. Over 32 engineers of power departments of the north eastern states of the country and officials of the Power Grid Corporation of India are taking part in the meeting. According to officials the agenda of the meeting hosted by the Manipur electricity department is to discuss increase of power generation capacity, transmission loss and improvement of distribution system and upgradation of the power stations in the region. The meeting will draft a joint recommendation for the north eastern state for improving the power supply system, officials said adding that on the first day of the meeting engineers of region expressed their willingness to share co-operation in taking projects in their respective states. Engineers of eight north eastern states, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and host Manipur are taking part in the meeting apart from officials and engineers of the Power Grid Co-operation India. The meeting will conclude with a function at the same venue in which Manipur Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh tomorrow. Power ministers of other states are also likely to take part in the concluding function but none of them arrived till today.
