Pressure was mounting on North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor to step down over financial irregularities while ignoring academic interest. The agitating university’s teachers and staff members have been demanding for Prof Tandon’s resignation for allegedly violating service rules and taking the decision to cancel payment of Hills Area Special Allowance (HASA). “We will continue with our non-cooperation movement against Prof Pramod Tandon for misleading the employees of the university with regard to HASA,” Joint Action Committee (JAC) Spokesman Dr Jemino Mawthoh told UNI. The JAC comprising of North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) and NEHU Non Teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) has been agitating against the sudden withdrawal of Hills Area Special Allowance (HASA) from last December. The JAC has set January 15 as the deadline for re-payment of HASA. However, the agitating university staffs have decided to resume to normal duty from tomorrow in the best interest of the University. “Our non-cooperation movement against Prof Tandon will continue till he quit the post of vice-chancellor,” Dr Mawthoh said. In fact, NEHU’s Executive Council had referred the restoration of HASA to the Academic Council, which is the supreme body of university. The JAC has also submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil in this regard who is also the visitor of NEHU.
