Dr. G. Viswanathan nominated as EPSI president

Dr. G. Viswanathan, Founder-Chancellor, VIT University, Vellore has been nominated as president of the Education Promotion Society for India. (EPSI) He assumed office at a function held at New Delhi on December 23. In his presidential address on foreign education bill, Dr. Viswanathan mentioned that the country need to position itself effectively in the education sector and put in policies enabling quality education in place. He requested all universities to come forward for accreditation process which will enable universities and institutions deliver education qualitatively and purposefully. The six-member committee comprise of Prof. K.B. Powar, former vice chancellor, Shivaji university and secretary general, Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Dr. Hari Gautam, former chairman, UGC and chancellor, KIIT University, Dr. G.D. Sharma, president, society for education and economic development, Maj. Gen. D. N. Khurana, chairman, centre for public policy (CPP), Sekar Viswanathan, pro-chancellor, VIT university, Dr. R.P. Singh, vice-chancellor, Sharda university were announced. A strategic document for submiting to the central government and all concerned national and international agencies. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations by end of January next year, so that it can be debated and forwarded to the centre for consideration in the proposed foreign education bill to be tabled in the ensuing budget session of the Parliament. In a press release issued by R. Nandakummar, PRO, VIT described EPSI as a national chamber having mandate from education universities and institutions across the country and is actively involved in policy advocacy for the educational sector. Manipal university, NIMS university, JSS university, BITS Pilani, IGNOU, Thappar university, BIMTECH, Sharda university, Manav Rachna university are some of the universities represented in the managing committee. While Prof. S.K. Khanna, Dr. Pritam Singh, Prof. P.V. Indiresan, Prof. Y.S. Rajan, Dr. Hari Gautam, Diwakar Shastri, K.N. Memani, Prof. A.K. Sharma, Dr. N.V. Vasani, Dr. G.C. Saxena are some of the eminent educationists in the advisory committee of EPSI. EPSI which represents across the education sector from primary to professional education has identified accreditation, certification, assessment, research and development, consultancy, international linkages, exhibitions. R. Nandakummar, PRO VIT, further stated that the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has associated with EPSI for enabling IT services to reach each and every educational institution of the country. While Merittrac, a leading assessment agency has been pulled in as technology partner providing combined online national admission test i.e. ENAT across 100 disciplines for the entrance examinations to higher education disciplines. EPSI has also created examination division as a third party autonomous agency to provide fair, transparent and merit based examinations for private sector initially and intends to reach the public examinations also. It is the only agency to provide entrance examinations in almost all verticals, i.e. engineering, medicine, management, law, basic sciences, etc. R. Nandakummar, PRO, VIT also added that EPSI which has made its impact with government(s) both at centre and state level, is working for creating pro-active education environment for effective education policy for betterment of the society at large to meet the national and global requirements.
