Lapang condemns attack on media office

Meghalaya chief minister, DD Lapang on Friday directed the State police to ensure early arrest of the culprits involved in Thursday night’s bomb attack on the office of a vernacular daily U Nongsain Hima here. An unidentified person hurled a petrol bomb int the newsroom of the leading vernacular daily causing minor injury to one of its staffers and damaging office properties including computers and documents. “We condemn the Thursday night’s incident and such incidents cannot be tolerated. I have directed the police to nab the culprits at the earliest,” Lapang said. According to staff members, the incident occurred at around 2030 hours when a boy came running to the office, threw the bomb and fled from the scene after committing the crime. The State police have already registered a case into the incident and investigation is on. Meanwhile, in an emergency meeting, the Shillong Press Club strongly condemned Thursday night’s incident and decided to hold a protest march on February 15. A portion of U Nongsain Hima office damaged by a petrol bomb which was hurled by unidentified person on Thursday night in Shillong, Meghalaya.
