Nagaland University vice chancellor (V-C) and registrar, who were under police investigation, seem to have landed up in the soup following two separate FIRs registered against them by NUTA officials. NUTA official has filed an FIR against the registrar P. H Naik for registering false FIR against NUTA officials, and another FIR against the V-C prof K. Kannan under SC/ST prevention of atrocities Act 1989 for alleged harassment meted out to local lady staff. The FIR was lodged with the SP Kohima February 8 last. NUTA officials revealed this during an interaction with media persons at Hotel Japfu here Thursday. NUTA official including its president Rosemary Dzuvichu, general secretary Dr. N. Venuh and prof. G. T Thong alleged that V-C had harassed and discriminated at least seven local lady staff. Out of seven, two were terminated from service for which the FIR was filed against the latter. Similarly, the NUTA official said that FIR against NU registrar was filed as the latter had falsely lodged FIR against the NUTA officials earlier. It claimed that the October 20 & 21 peaceful agitations was called by Nagaland University Teachers Association Kohima (NUTAK) and Nagaland University Non Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA) in protest against the V-C’s alleged move to transact Rs.22 crore from Central Bank to SBI on fixed deposit. Meanwhile, SP Kohima Zekotso Mero, when contacted, confirmed that NUTA officials had lodged FIR. The SP said he had already assigned Additional SP Kohima T. Metha to examine the FIR against the V-C and the SDPO Kohima Chinese Chakhesang to examine the other FIR against the registrar. He, however, said that case was yet to be registered so far. On the other hand, the NUTA official also revealed that it had already shot off a letter to the Director CBI expressing the doubt on the integrity of the CBI official presently engage in the investigation into the various anomalies in the University and demanding for their replacement. It also claimed that the VC on coming to know about the letter written to the CBI director had threatened the NUTA officials for writing to higher up. Stating the chronology of the ongoing imbroglio in the University, the NUTA official said that the association had written letter to the CBI Director on September 7 last for which the university served show cause notice to NUTA official the next day. On October 8 last, the V.C had wrote letter to SBI for transaction of Rs.22 crore from Central bank to be kept in fix deposit. VC Prof K.Kanna left for Delhi and never return to Kohima but went back to Lumami. On coming to know about the move by VC, NUTAK and NUNTSA called for peaceful agitation on October 20 and 21. On October 21, Registrar filed GIR against the three NUTA official and president of NUNTSA. However, after persistent agitation by the NUNTSA, the University authority withdrew the FIR against NUNTSA president. The VC in a notification on November 18 issued a notification stating that he had shifted his office to Lumami campus leaving behind more than 300 other staff at Kohima. Again on November 30, the V-C suspended three NUTA officials without any rhyme or reasons. NUTA wrote to Executive Council which held its meeting December 7 last but the V-C allegedly did not allow the letter to be distributed to the EC members. The issue of suspension was taken up in the EC meeting but the EC members refused to approve the same as the V-C had failed to produce any documents. Further, the suspended NUTA officials also claimed that V-C had so far refused to rectify their earlier suspension, which was a must as per the university rules. While revealing that they were ready to file defamation case against the university V-C soon, the NUTA official, however, said that it was only waiting for the outcome of EC meeting schedule for February 13 next. Further, the NUTA official alleged V-C of illegally appointing 60 security staffs without advertising the posts and conducting interviews and without any financial provisions. While 15 security staffs were recruited through Rajya Sainik Board, another twenty were recruited from a fictitious and non existing security training school based at Rusoma village. The remaining 25 were also similarly recruited December last. Before the recruitment, the V-C reportedly wrote to union home ministry demanding for security and the latter in turn wrote to state chief secretary directing the state to provide 30 police personnel for university security. The same copy of the letter was also endorsed to the V-C, NUTA official claimed and expressed surprise on why the university required so much security when there was no threat at all. Furthermore, the NUTA official claimed that it never obstructed the functioning of the university even for a single day but it was the VC who was obstructing for which several research works were stalled. Moreover, the result of researched scholars whose thesis was submitted two years back were kept pending till today, it added.
