Rs 50cr package for Karbi Anglong

Dispur Thursday announced Rs 50-crore package for Karbi Anglong district in the wake of Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front formally laying down arms at a ceremony in Diphu. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi, while announcing the bonanza, also said the surrendered militants would get Rs 2 lakh each as a one-time grant. Though Union home minister P. Chidambaram could not make it to the ceremony, he welcomed the rebels’ return to the mainstream and promised to be present during the tripartite talks with the outfit. “It is a sign of our sincerity to the peace process. We hope both Delhi and Dispur will be very sincere in considering our legitimate demands, which include Hemprek Kanthim (self-rule homeland). Our struggle for a homeland would continue unless the long-cherished dream of the Karbis is fulfilled,” KLNLF publicity secretary Rejek Dera asserted. KLNLF arsenal Our Diphu Correspondent adds: A list of the arms which the KLNLF cadres deposited included 20 AK series assault rifles, 17 AK series rifles, 5 Nos of M-16 series rifles, USG gun – 1, Light Machine Gun - 1, Six Nos of 40 mm gun , One Rifle Launcher, One RPG - 4, SLR- 3, .22 pistol – 2, US Carbine – 1, M- 21 rifle – 4, Stand Carbine – 3, MP- 54, RDX- 500 grams, IID- 2, 3.6. gun- 3, SBBL- 5, DBBL – 2, UBBL 29, 9 mm pistol – 13, .32 pistol – 13, 9380 rounds of bullets, 25 KG- TNT, 14 nos of radio base, Time devise – 2 etc.
