: A solid hume pipe and concrete drainage system measuring about 800 ft was jointly inaugurated by Khekaho Assumi, chairperson DMC and Col. Sandeep Karki at Sewak Head, headquarter, Sewak colony, Dimapur on Monday.
DMC Chairperson, Khekaho Assumi said that the drainage system which was a long felt of the people of the area would benefit them as well as the GREF personnel during rainy season as it used to be flooded and caused a lot of inconvenience for the residents.
While thanking the GREF personnel especially Brig. Balraj Singh, Col. Sandeep Karki and Maj. Manikandan Singh for their co-operation in making the drainage project turn to reality, Khekaho said many houses of the colony used to be flooded during monsoons.
Elaborating on the construction of the drainage system, Khekaho said that the GREF were kind enough to contribute Hume pipes and cement, while the rest was borne by the civic body.
Col. Sandeep Karki, who also spoke on the occasion, said the GREF had earlier approached DMC for the project and since the DMC expressed their inability due to lack of funds, the GREF agreed to contribute half of the construction cost. He also thanked the DMC for their cooperation especially DMC chairperson for making the project a reality.
The drainage system was constructed and inaugurated by the DMC in collaboration with the GREF personnel stationed at Dimapur.
DMC members, Lipok Pongen, Kiho and T. Lotha, were present at the function along with DMC staff members and GREF personnel.
