All Nagaland PWD(R&B) & (H) Work- Charge Employees Association had filed WP (C) no 68 (K) which was withdrawn and subsequently WP (C) no 266 (K) in Gauhati High Court was filed for enhancement of wages for fixed pay labours of NPWD from Rs. 750 (Rs. 25 a day) to at par with daily minimum wages fixed by the Central government (Rs. 80 per day). A joint release issued by ANPWDWCEA president Khriel Akuo Mepfuo and general secretary Kuhoshe Swu stated that after prolonged litigation a government notification fixed the wages at Rs 2000 per month wef 1.12. 2009, pending receipt of work charge and casual employees’ commission final commendation. The association deemed that minimum wages of Rs 80 a day (Rs 2400 per month), should be enforced throughout the country, however, in view of the government notification the court issued an order dated February 2, 2010 directing the government “to expedite the matter relating to the Revision of rate of wages of work -charge and casual employees within a period of six months”, and granted liberty to Association to approach the court if it was still aggrieved by the final rate of wages revised by the government of Nagaland.
