The new Dimapur Municipal Council dumping ground fencing measuring 10 feet in height, covering about four hectare of land was inaugurated by DMC chairperson, Khekaho Assumi and Deputy Chairperson, D.P Angami in presence of DMC members and staff on Friday.
DMC Chairperson, Khekaho Assumi said that DMC new dumping ground was bought by the Chief Minister, Neiphu Rio from his special fund and donated as dumping ground to Dimapur Municipal Council.
He said the DMC felt the need to start the fencing work around the newly acquired dumping ground as the land was getting encroached from all sides by the locals and as per PWD schedule of rate, an estimate of brick wall which would cost Rs.44 lakh was forwarded to Urban development Ministry, government of Nagaland for necessary approval. Dr. Shurhozelie, Minister for Urban development and Higher education sanctioned an amount of Rs.18 lakh in first installment.
Since the second installment was to be released only in 2010-2011 and encroachment had become rampant, the DMC managed to get the remaining amount that is Rs.26 lakh and successfully completed the work.
The chairperson thanked the chief minister Neiphiu Rio and Minister for Urban Development and Higher Education, Dr. Shurhozelie for contributing the land and for sanctioning the amount in starting the project.
The DMC Chairperson also thanked the DMC staff for bearing with the councilors in making the project successful.
