The first foundation day celebration of Dimapur Gorkha Mothers’s Association (GMA) was commemorated at St. Paul School, with Chairperson, Purana Bazaar village council Tokheli Kikon as chief guest and Loknath Lopcham GB, vice chairman, Dimapur Gorkha Union as guest of honour.
The chief guest, Tokheli Kikon, who attended the function in place of MLA Azheto Zhimomi, conveyed his greetings and message. Dimapur Gorkha Union, chairman, Kumar Sobha exhorted the Gorkha women on various women issues such as women empowerment, girl child education, equal status for men and women and girl child infanticides incidence in other parts of the world.
While stressing on importance of women, he said, “Once women are educated, the whole family is educated”. He also encouraged the women folk by quoting certain women leaders in the country such as the president Pratibha Singh Patil, UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha speaker, Meira Kumer, UP chief minister, Mayawai and Opposition leader Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj.
Guest of honour for the occasion, Loknath Lopcham GB, vice chairman, Dimapur Gorkha Union also addressed the occasion.
Earlier, Reshmi Sobha chairperson of the programme welcomed the gathering and the dignitaries.
The occasion also witnessed cutting of cake in honour of its first foundation day celebration by the chief guest.
The chief guest also donated a sum of Rs.50,000 to Gorkha Mother’s Association.
Others who spoke on the occasion include Rajan Lopchan, president Gorkha Student Union Dimapur and other local invitees and dignitaries.
