Police arrest home guard personnel

A constable belonging to the state home guards was arrested Saturday after he reportedly deserted with two service 303 rifles along with some live ammunition. According to police sources, the accused later identified as one Constable, Elya Patton son of Benjamin Patton of the home guards deserted with two 303 riles along with some live ammunition while on duty at the Gauhati High Court Kohima bench during wee hours, Saturday. However, Police as soon as receiving the report swung into action and apprehended the accused morning from a booze joint on Saturday. Police later recovered the missing arms and ammunition from a culvert near the court following revelation by the accused. The motive behind the desertion was not known. A case has been registered under section 409 and 381 IPC for criminal breach of trust by government servants and theft by government servants. The accused was under judicial custody for 48 hours till the time of filing this report.
