AR outpost attacked in Ukhrul; 2 injured in bomb blast

An outpost of the Assam Rifle in Ukhrul district near the international border with Myanmar was under heavy attack by unknown rebels suspected to be a valley base one, according to unconfirmed reports. Police in Ukhrul could not immediately confirmed both the incidents but a reliable sources said that the attack happened at an AR post, guarding the international border with Myanmar at Bundung in Ukhrul district at the wee hours on Monday. Sources said that the ambush was laid at the Assam Rifles post near the border at Kasong by the rebels using lethod and rocket launchers and took away at least seven assault rifles apart from destroying two vehicles of the AR. Police as well as Assam Rifles authority were not ready to disclose details regarding the incident. “We got the information but could not cull out detail for the time being,” a police officer in state police headquarters said. Meanwhile, another report said two cadres suspected to belongs to NSCN (IM) sustained injuries, when a bomb allegedly planted by unknown rival group went off at Nungthar village under Kasom Khullen Police Station last night. On the other hand, two persons suspected to be cadres of NSCN (IM) sustained splinters injury when a bomb planted on the way at Nungthar village of Ukhrul exploded last night. The source said that one of the two cadres injured in the bomb blast was identified as Philip, a resident of Lungphu village of Ukhrul district. The identity of the other injure cadre could not immediately established. They received only minor injuries, the report added.
