Former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today challenged incumbent Tarun Gogoi to rope in any investigating agency to prove his involvement in any scam as alleged by Mr Gogoi and his Congress party. ‘’All investigating agencies of the country, including the CBI, have given me a clean chit in any inquiry conducted against me,’’ Mr Mahanta said here. Taking a dig at Mr Gogoi, he said, ‘’Let Mr Gogoi call in the FBI now to investigate against me. The CBI can keep itself occupied probing smaller scams like the Rs 1000 crore scam in North Cachar hills.’’ Backing the allegations of Rs 1000 crore scam in NC hills, he maintained that the then principal secretary of the NC Hills Autonomous district council Dwivakar Mishra had submitted a report to the governor on the Rs 1,200 crore scam in September-October last year, before the NIA had filed its charge sheet. A media report on involvement of several Congress ministers in the Rs 1000 crore scam had created a political storm, stated a UNI report. Meanwhile, the state unit of the students wing of the Congress, NSUI, today submitted a memorandum to the governor demanding interrogation of Mr Mahanta by the CBI in the Rs 400 crore LOC scam in the veterinary department during his stint. The NSUI maintained that since Mr Mahanta did not enjoy any safeguard at present, he should be made to face CBI questioning, from which he was exempted due to his special privileges as the chief minister during the CBI probe.
