A road stretch covering about a kilometer at Mon basti under Karbianglong district, Assam is being constructed under the initiative of former chairperson DMC, Khekaho at the request of the village council and elders of Mon Bosti. The DMC had earlier provided an earth mover (JCB) and 52 trucks load of sand gravel to the Mon bosti council for leveling the road stretch and for constructing of the road. Mon bosti church compound and women leaders’ residential site was also leveled under the same developmental work initiated by the former DMC chief. Khekaho said at the moment the road stretch was leveled with sand gravel initially, and that black topping of the road would be initiated in the near future. He also assured them he would carry on with the developmental works that would directly affect the common man and their livelihood whether he is in the DMC or not. While stating that all must contribute to the welfare of the society, he said, “If everyone has a heart to contribute a little from his littleness how developed our locality would be”. Mon Basti village chairman R. Noklen said that Mon bosti, which has about 200 houses had not seen any development either from Assam government nor from Nagaland government for the last 20 years and that villagers were finding it hard to commute especially during rainy season due to water logging. The villagers while thanking the former DMC chairman for his magnanimity assured him that Mon Basti would be always behind him in his future plans. A youth representative of village also thanked former chairman DMC for his endeavors and for his help in reconstructing the road. Former DMC members, I.Nungsang Jamir and T. Lotha, while describing the former chairman as ‘man of words’ urged villagers to rally behind the former chairperson in his future plans to get the maximum benefits from him.
