Department of food and civil supplies (F&CS), Mon reacting to a news item “illegal storage of PDS items”, which appeared in Nagaland Post, has clarified that owing to circumstances the department had stored the food grains in a private building. Describing the circumstances, the Mon F&CS department assistant director, in a release, said that CPO godown in Mon, constructed in early ’70s, had deteriorated and was no longer functional. Further, the department said that as the CPO godown was located in the heart of the town it was dismantled in 2006-2007 for road widening. “In the given circumstances the department made local arrangements by selecting the present private building as godown for stocking the food grains…,” said the F&SC assistant director. Stating that FCI godown in Mon has not been functioning for the last 10 years, the department said it took up the matter with the FCI officials to activate the FSD in Mon. “The department has also taken up the matter for alternate site for construction of modern godown,” it stated, and expressed hope that public would understand the practical problems.
