Five days after giving the police a slip, two of the under trials prisoners (UTPs) were recaptured today from outside the Shillong district jail premises here, police said. Shillong Superintendent of Police Claudia A Lyngwa said that the jail guards spotted the escapees --- Hambreas Lyngdoh Nonglait and Ramesh Marngar --- loitering outside the jail premises. Both the escapees have handed over to the police and police have started to glean information from them to find out the whereabouts of escaped UTP Demand Marwein, she said. On February 1, three of the seven UTPs had made good their escape from the court premises of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Mairang Civil Sub-Division in West Khasi Hills district. The escaped prisoners were taken to Mairang from Shillong District jail along with four other prisoners. Earlier, the state government ordered a magisterial inquiry into the escape of three under trial prisoners (UTPs) from the court premises, even as a massive manhunt is underway to trace them. Extra Assistant Commissioner of Mairang Sub-Division Waldis Biam will probe into all aspects of the escape of the undertrials from the police custody and fix responsibility for the episode.
