Union home minister, P. Chidambaram is likely to attend the KLNLF arms decommissioning ceremony on February 11 at the KASA stadium here. Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi has confirmed his presence for the event. Meanwhile, the district administration here is making all preparations for safe conduct of the affair and the KASA stadium is virtually turning out into a garrison with every passing day as police officials roam around the venue round the clock. Sources on condition of anonymity said that the KLNLF cadres were already on the move. “They are zeroing at undisclosed locations from where they will commence their peace march at Diphu to finally bid farewell to arms,” sources revealed. Some of the KLNLF high-ups are likely to camp at Diphu from tomorrow, the sources added. All eyes are now set at Diphu to witness the historic moment when more than 400 revolutionaries would decommission arms. Meanwhile, the Karbi Anglong Bangali Samaj (KABS), Central Committee, Diphu has urged union home minister, P. Chidambaram to attend the KLNLF arms decommissioning ceremony scheduled to be held at Diphu. The KABS in a memorandum to the home minister said that people of the two hill districts of Assam have been staying under the clutches of different insurgent groups during the last few years. It, however, stated that the entire North East India was undergoing overall change under the initiative of P. Chidambaram. The KABS expressed hope that with the KLNLF deciding to end violence and UPDS already making peace parleys with the Indian government, people would witness a new peaceful and prosperous Karbi Anglong in near future.
