Nagaland is likely to go for the Rajya Sabha election either in March or April though the official dates are yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI). According to the Rajya Sabha website, the tenure of sitting Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, Khekiho Zhimomi (NPF) comes to an end on April 2, 2010. The election is expected to be a direct contest between the ruling NPF-led DAN and the opposition Congress. So far, no politician has sought any party ticket. The state would have an electoral college of 60 members - meaning all the elected members of state legislative assembly will have the voting rights. At present, the DAN coalition has 40 members while Congress along with one Independent has 20 members in the 60-member house. State assembly party position is: NPF - 32, NCP -2 and 6 Independents all comprising the DAN while the opposition Congress has 19 and one Independent legislator. (Correspondent)
