Second phase of polio immunization conducted

The second phase of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) in Mokokchung was conducted at Imlong Place where CMO Mokokchung Dr. Bendang Jamir administered the first Polio drops. Under the supervision of District task force, a total of 218 booths were set up on Sunday. The programme was carried out successfully through the active support and participation of Indian Red Cross Society Mokokchung, Rotary Club Mokokchung, Churches, DPRO, Gaonburas, Ward/Village chairman, and district administration in all blocks and volunteers from the MTBA Youth Department, Women Health Committee, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers and Health workers from all the Health Centres. The volunteers would further conduct house-to-house immunization for the next three days. Rotaract Club of Chumukedima also organized a polio camp at St. Gabriel School, Chumukedima and immunized 130 children with the help of its entire member. The club also visited Asha Bhavan, rehabilitation centre, Cmd and donated medicines. IPPI in Wokha was conducted with a total of 176 polio booths, 1 mobile unit and 5 transit points administering polio drops to children. DIO Dr. Tumchobeni administered polio drops to children at chief medical office premises while DC Wokha, Wepretso Mero with state Monitor, Dr. K. T. Lotha, state TB officer, DIO and other medical staff supervised polio booths in town areas, Chukitong town and Nungying village. CMO Wokha Dr. N. M. Kithan informed that health workers and volunteers would carry out house-to-house visit on February 8 and 9 in both urban as well as rural areas. In Mon, John 3:16 Society- a charitable society participated in second phase of IPPI in Mon. Ten booths were allotted to the society and around 2000 children were immunized. Meanwhile, as a part of nation wide IPPI programme, 16 AR of five sector under the aegis of IGAR (N) conducted polio immunization Unit Hospital, on the theme ‘Two Drops of life’. Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association 16 AR president, Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia, inaugurated the programme by administrating the polio drops. The unit hospital staff, under the supervision of Dr Amrik Singh, Dy Comdt (SMO) and Capt Vishal Raut (RMO), administrated Pulse polio drops to 226 children.
