Heritage Convention High School, Uripok in Imphal west district, Manipur was partially damaged on Sunday by irate parents and guardians of the students who were asked to pay fees for four months – the period during which schools remained closed following the stir called by Apunba Lup demanding resignation of chief minister O. Ibobi Singh on moral grounds over the July 23, 2009 shoot out incident that claimed the life of two persons. Timely intervention by the police saved the school from total damage. Parents and guardians of the student converged at the school and started pelting stones, sticks etc damaging window panes and doors of the school building. The parents and guardians also reportedly targeted a lady teacher who made the announcement in the class Saturday regarding clearance of fees. The situation was brought under control with the timely arrival of the police. Police also assisted in settling the matter between the school authority and parents and guardians. The matter was put to rest only after the principal of the school, Bikram and teachers offered apology to the parents and guardian and also announced that the school management had reviewed its decision and decided to collect fees for only one month.
