Woman gang-raped

A 45-year-old mother of six was allegedly gang-raped by three persons, somewhere in a jungle above bypass check gate off Kohima town Sunday afternoon, police said. According to police, the victim, a Nepali, while performing chores in a dairy farm (Kheti), in which her family is employed, was forcibly taken to a nearby jungle by three persons who gang raped her after blind folding and tying her hands. The incident reportedly took placed at around 2 p.m. Sunday. The victim’s husband, who had reportedly found her at around 5 p.m., took the victim to hospital for medical attention. The hospital authority then informed the police later at around 7 to 7:30 p.m. Police team, who had rushed to the hospital, took the statement of the victim and later a case was registered with South Police station. Based on her statement, police reportedly picked at least six suspects for interrogation Monday. It was also learnt that both victim and suspects were sent for medical examination. Police, however, refused to disclose the identity of suspects and investigation status except that the suspects belonged to “mixed community.” Superintendent of police Kohima Zekotso Mero confirmed the report and said he was confident of cracking the case very soon. Fonseka was arrested by the military police, sources said, Xinhua reported.
