Teachers: Catalyst for change, peace

St. John High Tuensang organized a 2 day teacher’s orientation program on February 5 and 6 at the school hall. The program was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Anto, director, youth center and Sr. Biya MMS. The objective of the program was to empower the teachers to enhance their skills in teaching and making the class-room – a joyful experience for children. Class-room management including difficult behaviors of adolescents and their responses, play way methods of teaching, and role of teacher as peacemakers in class-room was also other objectives of the program. The growth and development of children was also discussed to manage and understand difficult behaviors of the children. In today’s context teachers’ have a vital role to play in crating a peaceful environment in the school and developing confidence and trust in the mind of the children to be the messengers of peace and hope. The main purpose of this orientation was to make children messengers of peace and hope to the school, to the family and to the society. SWOT analysis which was also carried out helped teachers to know their strength, weakness, opportunities and threats in running the institution and also producing best of the children. They also followed S.M.A.R.T. principles to achieve their set objectives for the year 2010. A reverse learning from ‘teacher-centered class-room’ to student-centered learning was the main orientation of the program. The training was attended by 62 teachers. Rev. Fr. Johnson welcomed the participants and expressed his gratitude to the facilitators.
