Under the aegis of Headquarters 3 Corps, 164 Inf Bn (TA) NAGA conducted a two week excursion tour to Kolkata and Darjeeling for a team of 17 students from Tuensang district on January 21..
According to a defence release, the tour was conducted as part of the awareness campaign for school children, organized under the Sadhbhavana Scheme by HQ 3 Corps. In Kolkata, the students paid a visit to the Indian Museum, Nehru Children’s Park, Victoria Memorial, Birla Planetarium, Alipore Zoo, Science City, Nicco Park, Behar Nath and Howrah Bridge, including a a metro ride to Salt Lake Stadium where they witnessed Republic Day Parade.
In Darjeeling, the children visited Mirak Lake, Tiger Hill, Rock Garden, Batasha Loop, Makal Babu Temple and tea plantations, including Himalayan Mountaineering Institute where the children tried their skills of rock climbing and mountaineering by scaling Tenzing Rock. The touring team returned to Dimapur on February 3 where a reception was organized by 164 NAGA Bn. While exchanging notes with the Commanding Officer during the reception, the children expressed gratitude to Indian Army, Headquarters 3 corps and 164 NAGA for organizing the tour, claiming it changed their perception of the world.
