Barely a day after the state police suspended those personnel involved in transporting liquor, Dimapur police Thursday at around 11:30 a.m. intercepted a police truck (NL11-1124) near Burma camp, and seized 200 cases of rum and 20 cases of canned beer. According to police, the driver identified as one Onentemsu (39), of district executive force (DEF) Wokha, was assigned to transport bricks from Merapani. The police jawan instead proceeded to Dimapur on the pretext that bricks were of inferior quality. On reaching Dimapur, the accused driver conspired with three civilian friends identified as Santsuo (34), Zubemo (36) and Chumchio (25) to smuggle the IMFL which were neatly packed in sacks covered with some layers of bricks. However, their attempt was foiled after police got wind of their plan. Sources also disclosed that action has already been initiated against the erring personnel as per the directive of the PHQ. Meanwhile, DGP K Kire expressed resentment over the incident and said stern action would be initiated against those personnel found guilty. Kire also said that a circular was forwarded to all SPs October last year, emphasizing that even police vehicles were to be frisked without any bias. In another incident, 130 kg ganja was seized from a Maruti van (NL01- C 6537) at Chumukedima check post on Wednesday. Two persons, identified as Rokovilie and Pusak Phom were arrested, police said. Police also seized 15 cases of IMFL from a Maruti car (NL07-4160) Thursday at around 8:30 a.m. and arrested two persons identified as Shikai and Visheto in this connection.
