NPF renominates Khekiho for RS seat

The NPF Working Committee on Tuesday unanimously decided nominate sitting Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi for the forthcoming RS election. “We have come to a unanimous decision to give one more chance to Khekiho,” NPF president, Dr. Shurhozelie told media persons soon after the working committee at the NPF central office this evening. He said the party working committee felt that Khekiho would do better if given one more chance as it takes a little time to get acquainted with the environment in the parliament. Shurhozelie said that he would invite Khekiho who is in Delhi to come and file his nomination papers. On the other hand, the NPF president said he would request all the alliance partners including NCP and independent to stand together as partners. “I’ll send my official letter or my people to appeal the opposition Congress to support my WC decision tomorrow,” he added. Though the election to the RS only involved the legislators yet it is the same as it involves political party, he added. Further, the NPF president revealed that he had earlier asked the party leaders not to apply for party candidature for the RS election. However, he said one application was received which was not done according to the procedure and came through division. On the civic body elections, he said the state government had decided to defer the Municipal and town council elections in favour of the Joint Parliamentary Working Committee on the Naga political issue and not to disturb the ongoing peace process and dialogue. The NPF president said 14 out of the total 17 members were present in Tuesday’s meeting.
