In response to a press release issued by VDB union, Phek district in local dailies on March 8, Hunietsu Vero, President 16 Pfutsero ACCC, Kuzuveyi Hiese, President 17 Chizami ACCC, Rudutso Vasa, President 18 Chozuba ACCC, Zachineyi Vadeo, President 19 Phek ACCC, Ruletho, President 20 Meluri ACCC stated that Phek District Congress Committee (PDCC) had been monitoring the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGREGS) based on the information received from Public Information Officer (PIO) and Project Director (PD) through Right to Information Act (RTI) application and that it was not a “solo campaign for selfish personal gain”. Terming the Congress party’s general campaign for the poor and down-trodden that were deprived of their due wages, it disclosed that personal attack on Mikha Kenye, President DCC, Phek was unfortunate and uncalled for. It also said VDB Secretaries were semi-government servants because they were appointed by state government, and VDB Union of Phek district opposing Congress party by taking role of another political party would be viewed seriously. While stating the MGREGS’ primary objective was to provide employment to jobless, it said doing development activities by depriving the job card holders of their wages was like deducting government employees’ salaries for development. The VDB Union of Phek district had stated that some information given by PDCC were “misleading and totally wrong as the material component far exceeded the wage component” and PDCC published the statements based on APRs made available by PIO. PDCC also stated it had verified works in the villages and found that “so-called developments” claimed by VDB Union of Phek district were mostly done by machineries, skilled and semi-skilled labours and not with the labour of job card holders.
