Special Director General of BSF, RK Medhekar arrived here to assess the prevailing situation after Sunday’s firing between the BSF and BDR in Muktapur along the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya.
“I have come here to familarise with the situation along the border and visit the border area to instill confidence in the mind of the people,” Medhekar said.
Accompanied by IG BSF in-charge (Assam-Meghalaya) frontier, Prithvi Raj, Medhekar gave a preliminary briefing to state Governor RS Mooshahary on the situation along the international border.
“Some of our border outposts have been realign as part of our strategy in the border areas,” he said.
The BSF had already relocated its outpost at Amlympiang (Naljuri) near Muktapur for strategic reasons following Sunday’s gun battle with the Bangladesh Rifles.
Asked if the BSF were soft while dealing with the BDR, Medhekar said, “there is no question of being soft, but we had never budged from our positions at any given point of time.”
