Traffic snarls appear to have become synonymous with Dimapur as the serpentine line of vehicles along the crammed roads has sharply increased following the introduction of controversial traffic regulations. The immediate result of one-way traffic along Church Road (NL road) has contributed a lot of parking spaces and solved chronic congestion to certain extent. However, there has been a mixed response among the motorists and road dwellers. While for many of autorickshaw drivers, it was not a matter of concern as the roundabouts have increased fares. But the shopkeepers along NL road have expressed their disagreement to new traffic regulations as they have lost many consumers. While Church Road (NL Road) has been closely monitored to minimize the snarls, the chronic problem of long motor cavalcade is seeing a ripple down effect, causing a bottleneck in major traffic islands especially Dhobi nallah, Hotel Tragopan, Burma Camp and Deluxe point. Even during off peak hours, the cascading effect has slowed down the traffic along Kher Mahal, Golaghat Road, over bridge and flyover. During peak hours, the roads are clogged at several key entry points which sometimes even stretches up to New Dhansiri Bridge. With an already over stretched man power, the working hours of the Dimapur traffic police seems to have increased till 7 p.m. It may be mentioned that the new traffic regulation came into force in Dimapur with effect from March 1.
