3 held for kidnapping in Dimapur

Two activists of the NSCN (K) cadre were detained by public near Naharbari on March 12 evening while abducting a non-local student, according to a delayed report. Police arrested the duo who were later identified as -‘capt’ Kughaho Chishi and ‘Lt.’ Akato Yeptho both of NSCN (K). Police said the accused persons along with two other accomplices entered the victim’s home and forcibly took him away in an auto. While on the way, the victim raised an alarm which attracted the attention of public leading to the detention of duo while their accomplices managed to escape in the auto. Based on their confessions, police later arrested the third accused identified as ‘maj’ (retd) Obed Awomi of FGN. Police disclosed that ‘Lt.’ Akato Yeptho of NSCN (K) was a habitual offender and was earlier booked under NSA. The arrest of trio led to the unraveling of a robbery case which took place on March 8 last at KT gas agency. It was reported that four miscreants had forcibly snatched Rs 1, 94, 230 from the counter at gun point. Police added that a total of Rs 26,000 was also recovered and seizure of two weapons. Meanwhile, in another case, one non-local business man managed to escape after three persons tried to abduct him. According to sources, the victim was traveling in an auto to Dimapur town on March 14 around 8.30 pm when the trio came in a motorcycle and accosted him at Padumpukri. Two of the accused got into the auto and while taking him in the auto, the victim shouted to attract the attention of one IRB patrolling party at Burma Camp. The personnel immediately chased after then arrested two persons identified as Kughovi Achumi and James Chophy. Their accomplice who was following in a bike fled and escaped.
