2 held for kidnap drama

Police arrested two teenage boys who staged a fake kidnap for ransom here Wednesday. The two arrested identified as one Zavon Lam (15), a class-X student of Pinewood School, Kohima and his colleague Vitonuho (17), a school dropout, were arrested Wednesday at around 8:30 a.m. from a Cyber Café near Fira Hotel, police said. According to police sources, Zavon’s father had received a call from the fake kidnapper March 15 evening who demanded Rs.5000 ransom for the safe release of his son. Zavon had gone to school that day but did not return home. Again, the so called abductor called back on March 16 and asked the father to hand over the ransom money to Zavon as he was being released. After the caller had informed the father about his son’s release, Zavon returned but the police, who were informed about the abduction drama, laid the bait and handed over some money in an envelope. Policemen in civvies keep a close eye on the boy however lost track of him owing to darkness March 16 evening. However, police tracked down the two juveniles March 17 from Cyber Café near Fira Hotel and arrested them. During interrogation, the two had reportedly admitted that they were playing Computer Games from the Café since last night and did not go back.
