Contractors working on Phek-Chozuba road via Thuüvopisü and Runguzu village are reportedly withdrawing their machineries from the work site owing to monetary demand purportedly made by some underground faction.
According to Thu-üvopisü and Runguzu village councils, such demands were hampering the progress of road construction work, and that to combat various obstacles they have formed a joint action committee.
Thüvopisü VC chairman Vesaathu Dozo and Runguzu VC chairman Thuyesa, in a note, said hereafter the committee would not go unopposed if any individual or organisation interfere or incapacitate the ongoing progress of road construction.
They also appealed to the underground faction responsible to desist from creating unwanted situation.
Further, they appealed to contractors to resume their work, as “random and rampant demand of money by various underground factions were not new thing in Nagaland, adding that this phenomenon had been viewed with great concern by conscious citizens and leaders equally.
Reminding the declaration of joint working group (JWG), which resolved to jointly monitor and check anti-social activities, the signatories said the declaration was positive and welcome step, and that it should serve as a stepping stone for contractors to resume their works.
