Pensioners’ storm CM’s bungalow in Manipur

Agitating retired government employees on Friday marched at the chief minister O Ibobi Singh’s bungalow demanding immediate fulfillment of their demands at about 1 pm, ahead of the chief minister’s meeting with the governor, Gurbachan Jagat to discuss on employees cease-work strike. Pensioners of Manipur government have been agitating for the last three months pressing the state government to clear pending benefits under the banner of the Manipur State Pensioners Union. The Manipur State Pensioners’ Union has been demanding payment of DR Arrear of 174 months, payment of arrear of 44 months Dearness Pension, payment of 7% DR with effect from July 1, 2008, payment of 10% DR with effect from January 1, 2009, 5% DR wef 1/7/2009 and implementation of ‘Accepted Recommendation of the 6th Central Pay Commission in toto to the pensioners/families of pensioners. Around 200 pensioners on Friday held a protest rally from Moirangkhom along the Indo-Myanmar section of NH-39 towards the chief minister’s Bungalow, Imphal. Police blocked and dispersed the protestors when they reached near Imphal police station. No casualties were however reported.
