To make a significant contribution towards reaching the Millennium Development Goal target of United Nation of halving the malaria burden (mobility and mortality) by 2015, Mon Area Development Program, a project of World vision India conducted one day awareness on malaria control and distribution of mosquito kits on March 20 at Council Hall, Mon Town with C. L. John, MLA 45 A/C MARCOFED & Chairman DPBD, Mon as chief guest.
All leaders of 20 Villages from Mon and Wakching Block of Mon district attended the program.
The chief guest, C. L. John launched the distribution of the mosquito net to all the 20 target villages. Speaking on the occasion, C.L John expressed gratitude on behalf of the state government and the community for rendering noble service in bringing development for the people of Mon. He encouraged leaders to cooperate with ADP and bring significant changes, thus building the communities in achieving sustainable development.
Speaking as resource person for awareness session, L. Mangyang, Inspector of Malaria, Mon stressed on basic information on how to prevent malaria and some of the programs being undertaken by the government.
In his key note address, Samuel Therieh, program manager World Vision India, Mon ADP highlighted some of the significant programs and interventions the ADP had initiated since its inception in 2002. He addressed various underlying hitches on health, with special focus on HIV and AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and immunization in the area.
The main objective for organizing the program was to scale up and sustain malaria control strategies to reduce the burden of disease and to achieve universal coverage for Long Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN) and thus, with this goal the ADP distributed three nets/household, covering 3469 families in Mon and Wakching block.
Earlier, invocation was pronounced by Langkho Pastor, Chi Baptist Church and the programme concluded with dedicatory prayer by the pastors present on the occasion.
