One day training -cum-awareness and sensitization programme on protection of plant varieties and farmers’ right Act was held at Council hall, Mon on March 18. ADC Mon Hq. Sarah R. Ritse, speaking as chief guest maintained that agriculture was the main occupation of Nagas but with increase of population in recent years land had become limited for cultivation.
She called upon farmers to adopt and apply scientific methods of farming for healthy production. She urged the farmers not to be mere spectators but practice whatever they learnt from resource persons for fruitful result. She also encouraged farmers to have a healthy interaction with experts during the interaction session.
In the technical session ‘Types of intellectual property Rights-PPV &FRA’ was presented by Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Jt. Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema while topic on “Plant genetic Resources of NE Region was presented by Dr. M.S. Sachan, Subject Matter Specialist (Genetic & Plant Breeding), KVK, Mon and “Role of Academic Institutions in conservation of Agri-Horti Crop Diversity in NE India” was presented by Dr. B. Sahoo, Scientist (Soil Conservation), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema.
Earlier in the inaugural function welcome address was proposed by Dr. B.P. Bhatt, Jt. Director, ICAR and vote of thanks was pronounced by B.N Phom, programme co-coordinator KVK, Mon.
