The first issue of monthly educational magazine ‘Schoolmate’ was released by minister for education Nyeiwang Konyak at Kohima on March 22. Having a host of eminent teachers and principals of reputed colleges and schools in its editorial and advisory board it envisaged to bring about education through inspiration, empowerment and excellence.
The advisory board for the magazine comprise of Dr M Roy Chowdhury, Principal, Salt Christian College, Dimapur, Fr Manauel Paikada Principal, Don Bosco School Dimapur, and Aheto Sumi, Principal Christian Hr Secondary School Dimapur. The magazine brings about a sharing of ideas, opinions and knowledge through sections in the academic subjects like English, science, history, geography, Hindi and mathematics in an easy to understand fashion. There are also general columns on current topics and social issues like HIV and AIDS , positive speaking, items in the news book reviews personality building all written in an interesting and highly lucid manner to as to educate students and help them exploit their own potential.
The ‘News in brief section’ provides general knowledge about recent happenings like the earthquake in Haiti, the annular solar eclipse, the exaggeration about the Himalayan glacier meltdown due to global warming, new governors of states, and army chief .
The academic section also flows through in crisp question and answer format -answering questions to all students with a thirst for knowledge.
Primarily meant for the students of class 10 it is of great benefit to students of other classes. The students can subscribe the magazine through school office or from any book stalls. Priced at Rs 30 per issue and yearly subscription of Rs. 300/-.
