Postal deptt clarifies

In response to the bandh called by Akuluto Area GBs’ Association (AAGA), opposing the move to shift post office from Akuluto town to Lumami village, reported in local dailies March 24, the department of posts, Nagaland division Wednesday clarified that post office at Akuluto has not been shifted nor abolished. According to state director of postal services, the post office in Akuluto has simply been downgraded to an office with shorter work hours after studying the workload of the office while the existing branch office in Nagaland Univeristy, Lumami campus has been simultaneously upgraded. It also clarified that a regular postal establishment (branch post office) with all postal functions would remain at Akuluto, adding that public could still avail all postal facilities from branch postmaster. AAGBA March 23 called for bandh on March 25, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Meanwhile, Zunheboto deputy commissioner T. Khetoho Sumi has informed that inauguration of post office at Akuluto has been deferred while launching programme of SBI at Lumami would be carried out as planned.
