AR celebrates 175th anniversary

Coming into existence in 1835, Assam Rifles celebrated its 175th anniversary on Wednesday. The event was preceded by various activities like White water rafting, Run for peace, Poetry competition and Talent scouting for Mission Olympic
Complimenting all officers, JCOs and all ranks an their families at the special Sainik Sammelan Maj Gen Sandeep Singh,SM,VSM, IGAR (N) in his message said “The Assam Rifles has rendered invaluable service to the people of North East region, identifying itself with the local tribes, helping in their economic upliftment and progress. The Assam Rifles in the past 175 years has evolved itself, responding to all challenges with élan. In the years to come, the force is poised to play a pivotal role in defining the future of the North East and live up to its image of ‘Sentinels of the North East’ and ‘Friends of the Hill People’.”
According to a defence release, ‘Barakhana’ was hosted for all ranks of the Assam Rifles personnel and the families. The celebrations culminated with Anniversary dinner at Officers Mess which was graced by HE Nikhil Kumar, Governor of Nagaland, Lt Gen N K Singh, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps, Imkong L Imchen, Home Minister Nagaland, Lalthara, IAS, Chief Secretary, Dr Doshehe Y Sema, Power Minister and other civil and military dignitaries. All of them wished and congratulated AR for its good work as well for achievements. Maj Gen Sandeep Singh,SM,VSM, thanked all the guest for gracing the occasion and making event a milestone in the history of Assam Rifles.
