Additional public prosecutor and civil judge (JR), Mokokchung have termed as “baseless” the content of a memorandum submitted to the DC Mokokchung by the Watsu Mungdang during the rally in Mokokchung on March 24.The Watsu had highlighted eight cases of rape and murder of women from 2003 to 2010 saying that the court had not taken any action in all the cases.
The two officials in a joint statement said that out of the eight cases, three has already been disposed. “Accused persons have been convicted, trial of two cases are in final stages, one case in which police charge sheet received recently has commenced issue of process,” they stated.
They said that investigation was in progress in the remaining two cases including the March 10 case. It was informed that the detailed record was available with the court of additional district session judge and with the investigating agency.
The memorandum submitted by the Watsu Mungdang “flows like a weapon of mass destruction creating havoc and hurting sentiments of many innocent people unnecessarily,” they said.
The two officials also said that no court can give immediate judgement and order in such a heinous crime case on demand by the public without following the established procedure for trial.
