KYS, KVC concern over wild fire

Kigwema Youth Society (KYS) has expressed concern over a spreading wildfire on the site of Mount Japfü which broke out around March 17. KYS general secretary, Neichukedo Neihu said in a press statement said owing to the terrain, heavy wind and dry conditions on the site, the fire was unable to be put out till date despite efforts of Kigwema youth. KYS has also informed that it would be grateful and announced a reward of Rs.10, 000 to whoever would disclose the identity of the persons responsible for the fire. Meanwhile, Khezhakeno Village Council (KVC) has informed that its village reserved forest area has been ravaged by wildfire.
A joint press release issued by KVC chairman, Lhouchinyi Koza and head GB, Kepfelhou stated that the fire had been allegedly started by Tunjoy people which was detected towards the south-eastern part of the forest on two occasions from February11-13 and March 19-22 and has spread out destroying forest resources in terms of crores at Wokedeo at Khezhakeno village under Phek district.
