The CPI (ML), media cell, Karbi Anglong through press release today that said after intense pressure from all sections, the Chief Minister of Assam was forced to eat his own words by agreeing for a CBI probe in N.C. Hills Autonomous Council an issue which he strongly opposed till the other day.
On the pattern of the government intrusting the responsibility of conducting inquiry into the one thousand crore scam in North Cachar Hills to the CBI in which seven Cabinet Ministers of the Tarun Gogoi led state government were named by the National Investigating Agency NIA in its reports said the government must also hand over the task of investigation to the CBI to inquire into the large scale corruption committed by Congress (I) run Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, the Leftist leaders said in the press statement.
“If the government could give the task of conducting inquiry into politicians-extremists to the CBI in North Cachar Hills the government must also do so in respect of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council where in the month of April 2004, Khorsing Engti the present H.A.D Minister who as a CEM entered into an eleven points controversial deal with a known extremist outfit operating both in Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills which not only triggered communal tensions but also provided Biren Sing Engti an electoral victory.
It was also during the tenure of Engti that the National Food for Work Programme scheme amounting to Rs.38 Crore and 275 metric ton of rice was looted”, the release mentioned.
“The government must not hesitate to give the task of inquiry to the CBI to investigate into the Joyram Engleng led Congress (I) Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council as there are rampant corruption in all the thirty departments under its administrative control.
The situation in N. C. Hills Autonomous Council has provided both the state and central government knuckleduster to project with its sinister designs of projecting to the people around in the whole country that excess money and excess power were being given to the Autonomous Councils and that it has to be curtailed”, the Karbi Anglong leftist leaders claimed through the release.
“The CPI (ML) and ASDC (P) will resolutely resist this dangerous move and intention of the government. The movement organizations will also oppose and expose the desperate attempts of Tarun Gogoi for protecting his tainted ministers from the radar of the CBI,” Daniel Teron further mentioned in the party release.
