Army bid farewell to major killed in Kabul blast

The army on Sunday bid farewell to Major Laishram Jyotin Singh of Army Medical Corps who was among the nine Indians killed in the Kabul blast on February 26. Maj Gen DS Hooda of 57 Mountain Division along with his troop received the body at Imphal airport. Columns of Assam Rifles, and Indian Army offered last gun salute to deceased army officer whose coffin was covered with Indian national flag. “The country has lost a brilliant Army officer who dedicated his service for the country and work tirelessly to serve the needy person as medical officer, not only for the country but abroad”, Maj Gen DS Hooda said while receiving the body. Hooda also assured all kinds of assistance from the army side to the bereaved family. Later, the dead body was taken to his native village, Nambol Awang Leikai where the last rites was performed with full state honour by the Manipur police. State police led by additional SP of Imphal west also arrived at the airport to receive the dead body of major. Major Laishram was recruited in the Army Medical Corp seven years back and was selected to work under the UN for assisting and providing medical aid to war victims at Kabul, Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Manipuri Diaspora Association, NCT Delhi, has also expressed its deep condolence to the bereaved family members.
