Spring festival 2010 begins

Signifying the unity of diversity of the country, the 5-day Northeast Spring Festival 2010 organized by NEZCC was formally inaugurated by Nagaland Governor and chairman NEZCC Nikhil Kumar at the NEZCC complex on Friday. Welcoming all the guests, dignitaries and participants from 14 states, Mr.Nikhil Kumar in his speech reminded that the NEZCC at Dimapur was launched by then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on October 6,1987 to promote, preserve and disseminate the rich culture and traditions of the region. Expressing satisfaction that the NEZCC was fulfilling its task, Nikhil commended ti for preservation, development and documentation of arts, crafts and literature with special empasis on the folklores, traditions and vanishing art. He also further expressed hope that the 350 artist from various member states under the guidance of eminent choreographer Maitreyee Pahari along with a variety of other cultural programmes, the mega festival would be able to showcase and educate the people on the rich and diverse culture of our country. Guest of Honour, chief minister Neiphiu Rio, in his speech lauded the role played by the NEZCC under the stewardship of its Director Mrs.Hekhali Zhimomi. He however expressed anguish that NEZCC lacked proper facilities such as an amphitheatre to hold such events against the vicissitudes of weather. Rio disclosed, he had appraised the NEC on the needs of the NEZCC, for a corpus fund and construction of an amphitheatre and auditorium as per the wishes of the Governor as the latter had to go to Delhi. Others who also attended included home minister Imkong L.Imchen, Health & Family Welfare Minister Kuzholuzo Neinu, S.I.Jamir and member PAC of DAN and ex-MP Imchalemba.
