1 AR Jawan killed in PLA ambush

Rebels of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) ambushed an advancing troop of Assam Rifles on Monday at Ringpham village where the government force is launching a flush out operations since past one week, killing one jawan identified as Josheph Radong Puya and wounded another jawan identified as Mangtinlal Haokip, officials stated. It may be mentioned that the AR troop was en route to Tolen village when they were under attack by the rebels between Warok and Tolen village of Chandel district. Villagers have meanwhile stated that at least two AR personnel were killed while one was wounded in the gunfight which last for about 15 minutes. Jawan Mangtilal sustained bullet injuries on the right ear and chest and evacuated to Army Hospital at Leimakhong in Imphal by army chopper. The rounding up a wounded rebel and killing other soldier could not be confirmed immediately from the Assam Rifles officials. It was also stated that the 15 AR troops advancing to the tri-junction of three districts of Thoubal, Ukhrul and Chandel district to flush out rebels camping in the area were facing steep opposition from the PLA rebels. On March 2, PLA rebels laid multiple ambushes on the same troops of 15 AR in which in the first ambush that took place at Tolen village inflicted injuries to an Assam Rifles jawan and a civilian, followed by another ambush in the morning of March 4 at Keihou village. Around 300 villagers have left their homes and are taking asylum at nearby villages. The operation was in progress till the time of filing this report.
