Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, Alemtemshi Jamir IAS and Temjen Toy IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Works and Housing had visited Akumen and Tsuremmen villages in Mokokchung district to oversee feasibility of road connectivity to these backward and unconnected border villages on March 5.
It is pertinent to mention here that these villages lack road link from Nagaland even after attaining 47 years of Statehood where one could reach to these villages only via Assam till date. During turmoil arising from border skirmishes time to time, the people of these villages were the worst sufferers being deprived of urgent medical needs; daily basic needs so on and so forth.
The delegation which comprised of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mangkolemba, EAC Longchem, executive engineer PWD R&B Mangkolemba and his Officers besides officials from the Forest Department, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency and host of others were well received by the villagers.
A public meeting was held at Akumen village community hall where the development commissioner expressed the government’s commitment to uplift the road connectivity to these foothill villages at the earliest including Armenkong village (Aonokpuyimsen). He also explained in detail the road map already in progress in the vicinity which is being implemented by the department with the help of NABARD funding and running from Longtho to Yajang-C.
He also spoke on the wide bamboo potentiality existing in the area and urged upon the public to wisely tap the already available resources in an economic way.
Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner assured to include in the departmental work programme in the 2010-11 session for 10.0 km black topped road which would connect both the villages with Longtho-Yajang-C Foothill road. He opined that Armenkong village too could be connected from Rural Development department and assured to liaise with the concerned authority from his level.
The meeting was well attended by the village communities of Lirmen, Tsuremmen, Akumen, Armenkong (Aonokpuyimsen) and Lirmen Bendangli Senso Telongjem members.
Meanwhile, the village council of Akumen, Tsuremmen, Lirmen, Armenkong (Aonokpuyimsen) and Lirmen Bendangli Senso Telongjem have extended gratitude to the visiting officials and the government for extending their support to these villages for venturing to start developmental activities for the communities.
